Working together to save animals

Best Friends in Atlanta works collaboratively with area shelters, animal welfare organizations and individuals to save the lives of pets in shelters in the region. The Best Friends Lifesaving Center is a lifesaving hub for animals and a base for local programming and coalition-building to help the metro-Atlanta area in its final push to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters, while strengthening the movement in the Southeast. Together, we will Save Them All.

Best Friends Lifesaving Dog and Cat Transport Program

Best Friends Animal Society in Atlanta works collaboratively with animal shelters across Georgia and the Southeast to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats by transporting them north to increase their adoption opportunities. This program fills a critical role in reducing shelter overpopulation in the Southeast and is an extension of our work being done in Atlanta and the Southeast region. This program is growing and has many opportunities to get involved, including temporary fostering of transport animals, vehicle set up, and driving assistance. For more information, please email transportatl@bestfriends.org.

Cobb County Community Cat Program

Best Friends in Atlanta, in partnership with Cobb County Animal Services, operates the Cobb County Community Cat Program, which a humane and effective way to reduce the number of free roaming cats in Cobb county. Since the program began in February of 2016, over 2,000 outdoor cats in Cobb County have been sterilized, vaccinated and ear tipped.

The program provides:

  • Help humanely trapping free roaming cats so they can be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped and returned to their home area. Ear tipping is the universal symbol of a spayed or neutered outdoor cat.
  • Assistance resolving issues with free roaming cats, like spraying, fighting and unwanted litters.

If you live in Cobb County and are seeing stray cats, we can help! Call 770-262-0514 or email cobbccp@bestfriends.org.

Who is Best Friends?

Best Friends Animal Society is a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with thousands of animal welfare groups across the country, Best Friends has regional centers in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and operates the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Founded in 1984, Best Friends is a pioneer in the no-kill movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from an estimated 17 million per year to around 733,000. That means there are still about 2,000 dogs and cats killed every day in shelters, just because they don’t have safe places to call home. We are determined to bring the country to no-kill by the year 2025. Working collaboratively with shelters, rescue groups, other organizations and you, we will end the killing and Save Them All.
